Overview

Torcal de Antequera hiking tour from Malaga – Small Group (8p max) –

The trip to El Torcal de Antequera from Malaga.

In the Torcal de Antequera hiking tour, we will pick you up in the city center with the van (meeting point: calle ordoñez 2). We will depart to Torcal de Antequera, the first Natural Park in Málaga and WORLD HERITAGE SITE by the UNESCO.

We are in a small group (8 people max.) so you will have the chance to know each other in the way (most of our guests are independent travellers from all around the world).

During the trip we will cross the Guadalmedina and Villanueva de la Concepción valleys, where you can enjoy the typical andalusian landscape with olive trees, almond trees and green beans crops.

The hike in Torcal de Antequera.

After a 50 minutes drive we will start the hike beside the natural park center. You will skip the busy hours and we will be alone or almost alone in the trail. The trail we have chosen crosses the most beautiful rock formations: the camel, the sphinx, the robot, the cathedrals and the famous screw, a protected Natural Monument in the park.

As we start the hike early in the morning is easy to see wild goats, the main mammal in this natural park. It is easy to see them in groups at the top of the rock formations. Advancing slowly along the trail we will cross the best view points of the natural park. In the place, we will interpretate the landscape and understand the geologic processes that made these stunning rock formations.

We will leave the common paths to discover surprising figures made in the stones during the last million fo years. We will find ammonites, fossils and view points with stunning scenery. You can not find this kind of landscape in other parts of Europe or America. That´s why is so unique and singular.

At the last part of the hike we will reach a  breathtaking view point. From there we can see griffon vultures. The vultures have their nets very close so it is easy to see them flying around. They are very big birds, of around 2.5 meters, and they are in danger of extintion in Spain, so it is a perfect moment to admire them.

The way back:

We still have to visit other area to visit the Screw, a Natural Monument placed in other area of the Natural Park. Therefore, we will have the chance of visiting other area with other landscape. After that, we will jump again into the van and go back to Malaga. I will drop you off in the city center, very close to the meeting point.

  • The unique landscape of the natural park.
  • The wildlife: mainly wild goats and griffon vultures.

Lovely and intelligent guide. You get much more information with guided walk although normally I do this kind of trips by myself. Easy to find the pick up point. Must see this World heritage site by Unesco.

Very good luck! Very good and fun guide. Bring hiking shoes when it is mountainous terrain. But definitely worth every penny!

The views are breathtaking, it’s a beautiful place to visit and the information that was provided helped to bring the area to life. From the geological to the historical, the tour guide brought the place to life. The pace was easy and I would suggest most people should find the terrain easy to navigate. It is worth going with a guide though as it would be very easy to get lost. Ah and finally the view from the top. You can see for miles all the way to the Sierra Nevada.

Amazing views and tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. The path was a little slippy in places so make sure to wear decent shoes.
