Overview

Caminito del Rey tour from Malaga – Small Group (8p max) –

The trip.

In this Caminito del Rey tour from Malaga in a small group you will discover one of the most beautiful gorges in the world. Departing from Malaga city center in our van (50 minutes drive) we will discover the Guadalhorce valley, a unique valley in the province specialized in the production of citrus trees. We will ascend and cross the mountains of Malaga and some white villages.

Once in Ardales, we will get in the Natural Park, where you can enjoy the views of the Guadalhorce lake, the olive and almond trees plantation in a hilly landscape full of windmills.

The hike.

Once in the parking, we will start the Caminito del Rey hike (8 kms) crossing the tunnel and we will get into the forest. We have 1,5 km until the entry of the oficial area and the first gorge. Once in the check in area we have to put on the helmets and we get into the Gaitanejos gorge. You will be amazed by this narrow gorge and by the beautiful orange colours of the limestone. We will stop in some spots to discover the history and the wild life of the natural park.

Once finished the first gorge we will get into a beautiful valley. The views from the valley are beautiful with some stunning view points to the next gorge. Once in the forest we will do a relaxing picnic with local products at one side of the kings path.

We are facing the last part of the valley and aproaching the second and even more beautiful gorge. In Los Gaitanes gorge, the kings walkway is breathtaking due to the vertical views. We will discover some geologic phenomenon, some fossils and some spectacular views until we get into the suspension bridge. Here you will feel like floating in the air suspended 120 meters over the river.

The way back.

We still have to cross the last part over El Chorro reservoir and hike until El Chorro village, where we will get the shuttle bus to come back to the starting point and then come back to Malaga in the van.

Had a fantastic time with our guide Alfonso hiking the Caminito del Rey! My wife and I are 64 and 66 years old respectively and we were worried when we originally booked the tour that we would be slower than the rest of the group and hold everyone back. Malaga Activa Tours assured us that there would be no problems, that the tour has everyone walking at a comfortable leisurely pace. They were true to their word and we had a great hike along with six others and our guide for a total of nine people. The weather was perfect and the day was topped off by a wonderful picnic lunch provided by Alfonso at the end. If you are in Malaga we would definitely recommend the Caminito del Rey Small Group Tour from Malaga with Picnic by Malaga Activa Tours rather than trying to arrange everything on your own.

Alfonso is probably the best guide we had! Speaks English fluently. It was really good with a small group. He knows everything about Camino del Rey and gave us great tips in Malaga. I really do recommend this tour!

A fantastic experience that's well worth doing, particularly if you haven't done it before. Make sure to wear comfortable trainers and be prepared for plenty of walking. Our guide was very knowledgeable and led the group at an enjoyable, steady pace. Overall, it was a great day out and one I’d happily recommend to others.

Me and my friend did this tour and had an incredible time. Alfonso was a great guide. He knew a lot of history about the area and also entertained us with jokes! The hike itself was very manageable and Alfonso did a good job about making sure we stopped when group members seemed tired.

We really enjoyed our guided walk/hike. It was about 5km total distance through 2 river gorges. Spectacular views as we walking on those narrow sidewalks hanging over the water. We felt very safe and enjoyed our picnic lunch after the walk. It was about an hour drive from Malaga.

Again and again the tour guide has organized this super and explained a lot of details on the way through the valley. The final picnic was kept simple but very good Selected bread.
